This is 40 CaptureMaybe it’s just me, but Judd Apatow threw way too much realism into This is 40. It was like the potential outcome of your life staring you down and saying “Hey! Hey there. See what you’ve got to look forward to?” Considering how well put together it was, excluding its story’s disjointed feeling, and a bang-up job by the cast (even Megan Fox), I likely would have enjoyed it far more if it didn’t speak to me so much on that level. Then again, that’s also what makes it funny. What good is life if you can’t poke fun at its mundanities?

Special Features

Being a comedy, it makes sense that the home version of This is 40 features a separate blooper reel from the one included in the credits. There’s also a fun extra called “Line-o-rama”, which is just a run of improvised lines throughout various parts of the film. There are also a few deleted scenes (one of them an entire song played by Mark Everett of Eels), and a couple of musical performances. It’s all worth checking out if you take the time to check out the film.

Verdict: Rent It
