It looks like Tim Schafer and the team at Double Fine aren’t the only ones looking to hit the crowdfunded video game development jackpot on Kickstarter. Actually, that’s a bit of an understatement. Well before Schafer and company’s project hit it big on the crowdfunding site, cash-strapped indie game developers were looking to fund their projects in the same way, though many had nowhere near the same level of success… or any at all. And it still continues today, with developers like Casual Brothers and their Kickstarter project Orc Attack, which they’re hoping to release for home consoles and PC within the next year.
The makers of the hack-and-slash multiplayer adventure title, which follows the adventures of gassy orcs as they try to rid their land of vikings, are looking to hit their goal £20,000 pledged by the end of next Sunday. And as lame as its “documentary”-style promo video is, and as much as its main gameplay mechanic makes me want to introduce the palm of my hand to my forehead, it won a People’s Choice Award… at the 2011 Develop Conference in Brighton. Well, maybe it’s a bigger deal than it sounds. What do you think? Does it deserve backing?
