If you remember our discussion on Playstation Canada’s 2012 Holiday Preview Event, you may recall the interest we took in the new Wonderbook augmented reality peripheral for Playstation 3, a new code-covered book that can be used with a variety of games. Well, Sony Computer Entertainment officially released Wonderbook this week, and its first title, the Harry Potter-based Book of Spells, which was developed in partnership with J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore online experience (apparently the first of a few products to result from said partnership).
Book of Spells fully utilizes the Wonderbook’s compatilibity with the Playstation Eye and Playstation Move to give players a glimpse into the world of Harry Potter in a completely new way; by allowing them to learn spells for themselves, using the Move controller as a wand, It also includes a bit of a story to push the experience along. Wonderbook: Book of Spells is available for a surprisingly reasonable $39.99 with the book and game, or in a bundle with the Playstation Eye and one Move controller for $79.99. Upcoming Wonderbook titles include Diggs Nightcrawler, BBC’s Walking with Dinosaurs, a Disney title and more.
