Nintendo is not the little kid it used to be. For years we’ve seen a plumber traverse mushroom-related worlds to save a princess (who was always in another castle) stomping on mushroom-related bad guys and turtles along the way. We’ve seen an adorable pink ball fill up with air and float across a vibrantly colored landscape. And we’ve seen a multitude of games with the word “Land” in it.
Though those games are still being made (and they look awesome), the advent of the Wii U has brought along with it some far more mature themes as well. And this wide range of game types were all presented at the Nintendo Holiday Showcase event that occurred in downtown Toronto this week.
From New Super Mario Bros. U, Kirby and Nintendo Land, to Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Zombie U, there was a plethora of games for all ages to enjoy.
And not only were they enjoyable, but they also looked great, which is another point of maturation for the company. For years they’ve been lagging behind in terms of visuals, but from what I saw at the event, Nintendo is definitely catching up!
