Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2013 is releasing in a few months (sometime in October, though the exact date has yet to be revealed), and I was privileged enough to get an early hands-on look at it.

In a small boardroom (named Molière) of an immaculately shiny office in downtown Toronto, I played a match of soccer with a PR representative from Konami, and I’ve got to say, I was rather impressed. The graphics were vivid, the grass seemed so deliciously lush that I kind of wanted to jump through the screen to take a nap on it, and the character design looked sharp (though I don’t really watch much soccer to know what they are supposed to look like).

Gameplay wise, the controls definitely seem to offer some challenge. This is not the kind of game that you could just pick up and play, as the controls will take getting used to. However, I will say that within a few minutes of playing I was already getting a feel for the game’s potential. With practice, this game seems like it will pack a fast and intense punch.

Suffice it to say, I’m fairly excited for this game to be released.
