As we had mentioned in a previous video, there is a new Double Dragon title in development for Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network. And, finally, this past week brought the announcement of just when it will be available for download. Coming September 11th, for $9.99, to the Playstation Network, and September 12th, for 800 Microsoft Points, to Xbox Live Arcade, Double Dragon: Neon is a “love letter to the classic beat ’em up genre with modern sensibilities…” from the folks at WayForward (BloodRayne: Betrayal, Mighty Switch Force).
As excited as I was for a new Double Dragon title though, recent viewing of some of the gameplay footage (see below) from Neon has me reconsidering that thought. It would seem that excluded from the “modern sensibilities” mentioned above, WayForward has forgotten speed as one of the gameplay mechanics for Neon (again, at least from what is shown within the gameplay footage). The aesthetics of the game are definitely a throwback to the look of the originals, and, indeed, of some of the more interesting fashion choices of their day, but I’m not so sure if keeping the original titles’ speed was necessary. Either way, Billy and Jimmy are back this September.
