Before you get yourself in a tizzy about the headline, I didn’t say that’s a bad thing. Microsoft and 343 Industries announced the details for the Halo 4 Limited Edition yesterday ($99.99 MSRP. I may post more about it in the future), alongside the unveiling of the game’s Halo Infinity multiplayer experience. The Halo Infinity multiplayer experience is not just a multiplayer mode – all of the multiplayer modes – competitive and cooperative – are actually accessed through it. And yes, to me it sounds rather MMO-like. You create your own custom Spartan-IV character and access multiplayer modes from onboard the UNSC Infinity.

The two major new modes 343 will be introducing in Halo 4 are Spartan Ops, an episode-driven story that intersects with the main campaign, and War Games, which will feature the competitive modes and take place on the Infinity’s combat deck. Spartan Ops will also integrate with a weekly series of cinematic episodes on Xbox Live that will play as the backdrop for the weekly Spartan Ops missions, which follow the story of a new team of Spartans – Majestic Squad. The missions are playable alone or with up to three friends. Halo 4 is currently scheduled to launch on November 6th.
