As part of the spring Xbox Live Arcade NEXT lineup, Lionhead Studios announced the release of Fable Heroes this week. The new spin on the now classic fantasy franchise has a more family friendly style than the previous installments, and plays as a multiplayer hack and slash title rather than the franchise’s standard third person adventure. Fable Heroes lets up to four players unite to combat enemies from the land of Albion while competing against each other to collect gold coins, which can be used to level up characters and unlock unique items within the upcoming Kinect-exclusive Fable title, Fable: The Journey.

Fable Heroes delivers a different stylistic experience as well, with a more cartoony feel that, honestly, may have staunch fans of the franchise up in arms, but will likely bring new players in as Lionhead expects. The development team has also worked to ensure that the game doesn’t loose its fun factor too quickly. As you advance and level up, more finishing moves, flourishes (is that a euphemism for fancy moves?) and power ups will become available, plus it features a stable of minigames to play with steadily increasing difficulty levels. Fable Heroes is available now, for 800 Microsoft Points.
