Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir has got to be one of the most innovative games I’ve played in a while. It not only utilizes the 3D aspect of the device, but takes advantage of the camera and the motion/gyro sensors as well to deliver a hauntingly puzzle filled adventure. The game is about a mysterious face-eating curse that you try to unravel with the help of Maya (a pretty lady that materialized in my room) and an AR diary (which comes with the game and is super neat). Unfortunately, though it is fun and creative, it does have its setbacks.
Firstly, the story mode was way too short. With all the potential this game had, the underwhelming duration really put a damper on the experience. It wasn’t nearly long enough at all! Also, due to the sensitivity of the 3DS, the camera sometimes lost track of the diary, which was a little frustrating.
But, I will say that if you want to play something that’s really quite inventive and amusing, I’d suggest giving this game a try. Maybe not right away, as it is too short to justify paying full price, but eventually it’ll be worth picking up.
