In Bruges is not an action movie in the American sense (highflying explosions, shallow characters, more explosions, cliché storylines, and more explosions, (oh, and let’s not forget explosions)). But I would also go as far to say that it’s not an action movie by any standard. It was more of a dark comedy/drama with a heavy focus on character. It was only lightly dusted with action, and I am fine with that. I like the focus to be on character and story, and if there’s a small sampling dish of action too, I won’t complain.

Not that I hate all adrenaline pumped action flicks, they’re just rarely good. (Do you think I’m wrong in saying that?) Not to say that this film was incredible, as it did have some noticeable logical flaws, and I didn’t care for the open-ended conclusion. But the acting, the characters, the music, the setting (Bruges, I want to go to you), and the story were strong enough that I enjoyed it far more than the aforementioned craptacular explosion-fests of one-dimensioned-ness. And though I do admit that those weren’t words, I still stand by them, steadfastly!
