Simple to play, but hard to master. That was certainly one of the mantras of the beat-keeping Nintendo DS title, Rhythm Heaven. With this week’s launch of Rhythm Heaven Fever, players can now take the beat-keeping from tapping and sliding on a small and portable touch screen to pushing buttons on their Wii Remote and sharing the experience with family and friends. Players control Rhythm Heaven Fever by tapping the A and/or B buttons along to the beat, which is typically accompanied by an animated scene as well. Back when we first saw it, as a still as-of-yet unnamed title at the Nintendo E3 2011 Review, some of those animations included catching peas on a fork, a samurai fighting off demons, and a cat and dog playing airborne badminton. So it was quite clear that the franchise retained its quirkiness.

Rhythm Heaven Fever features medals and unlockable bonus games and special sections. There are also multiplayer modes which allow for simultaneous gameplay. It includes over 50 unique rhythm games, however Nintendo is not saying whether that includes the bonus content or not. Either way, at $29.99 USD/CAD, this game is likely to be quite the steal. I can’t wait to play.
