After seeing the 3D reincarnation in theaters, I really want to purchase a copy of Beauty and the Beast on DVD. Not because it was so amazing that it reignited my adoration for this beautiful Disney classic, but for the exact opposite reason. I would go as far to say that if this was my introduction to the film, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it.
It seemed as though they redrew the characters, as they looked different… in a bad way. Also, their motions were very jagged and jittery, and they were oddly brighter than the background.
With regards to the 3D, I got the feeling that they layered the film. As in, they had the background on one layer, the characters on a separate layer (which protruded ever so slightly), and then if there was anything in front of the characters, they were on a third level (which stuck out a bit further). It looked rather strange.
With it’s beautiful music and rich characters, this movie does hold a place in my heart, and I can’t/won’t let this version taint my fond memories of it, and that’s why I want to watch the DVD.
