It seems that, for whatever reason, Nintendo has taken out the earplugs out and said “Hey. Maybe the 3DS does need a right-hand Circle Pad”. Yes, it’s been a source of confusion for some time, and we’ve even asked Nintendo representatives for the reasoning, ourselves, only to be told that it was a design choice and games are still perfectly playable even with only one Circle Pad and the stylus. Well, that’s all about to change! Sort of…

Nintendo announced today that it will introduce the Circle Pad Pro, an optional cradle accessory that adds an analogue Circle Pad to the right side of the 3DS and additional shoulder buttons that Nintendo says makes it feel more like traditional console controllers. Launching on February 7th at EB Games (EB’s website is calling it exclusive, but Nintendo’s announcement doesn’t actually mention anything about that), the Circle Pad Pro will be compatible with Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil Revelations and Metal Gear Sold 3D Snake Eater to start. Perhaps this is the lefty fix at which Matt Ryan hinted when he told me to “hold tight” at Nintendo’s E3 review? It will be available for $19.99 CAD at EB Games/GameStop locations and online.
