If you are a die-hard Halo fan, nothing I can say could or should stop you from purchasing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, but if you are but a moderate fan, I suggest you hold off buying it. For though the graphics have been vastly improved, its mechanics are the same as they were when it released. And seeing as how shooters have evolved greatly since then, this game is sufficiently outdated.
I could go on a rant about how I am fed up with the inexhaustible Halo franchise and derivative shooters in general, but I’ve done that multiple times at this point, so I’ll skip being redundant and instead say this: for your hard earned money, there are so many great new games to purchase, that I would put this one on the backburner until it drops in price.
I don’t mean to disrespect the game, as I do appreciate its pivotal role in propelling the FPS genre (and the video game industry in general) to what it is today, but it doesn’t mean I should feel obliged to purchase every release (or in this case rerelease) of a franchise that I personally have had enough of.
