Sony Computer Entertainment America and Uncharted developer and creator, Naughty Dog, officially announced today that they are working on a new franchise, called The Last of Us. Premiering two nights ago with a trailer at the 2011 Spike VGAs (really? I didn’t even notice they were on…), the game is a part-survival, part-action story about the survivors of a modern plague that wiped out a significant portion of the human population. With survivors fighting and killing each other over the most basic necessities of life, players are thrown into the shoes of Joel and Ellie, who must band together to make it across what’s left of the United States.
Why is the duo venturing across America, and what awaits them? A cure, perhaps? An endless supply of untainted food? Well, Sony isn’t saying just yet. The game’s development is being led by Bruce Stanley, Game Director, and Neil Druckmann, Creative Director. The Last of Us is being developed exclusively for Playstation 3, and we’ll have more on it when information becomes available.
