When PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) decided to go after Super Mario for supposedly promoting the killing and skinning of Japanese Tanuki raccoon dogs, the response from gamers was swift and, to say the least, unfriendly. Though the organization has half-heartedly retracted its statements, we wanted to have our say too! PETA went after a beloved character, who was doing no harm to anyone or anything, and equated his use of a magical raccoon suit to the real killing of Tanuki dogs in Japan. And after calling the whole thing a “joke”, they still left the game and entire page online! It’s time to get serious, people!
