Only a couple of days after the release of the first downloadable content pack for Gears of War 3, Microsoft and Epic Games announced today that for American Thanksgiving this year, it will be giving thanks to fans of the Gears franchise by giving away a free multiplayer map pack. The new Versus Booster Map Pack will unlock five maps available in public matchmaking – Swamp and Clocktower, from Gears of War, plus Azura, Rustlung and Blood Drive, from the Horde Command Pack.

Now, I hear what you’re probably saying, “But Eli, what was the point of me paying money for the Horde Command Pack if they were going to just give it away for free?” The most reasonable answer to that is the Versus Booster Map Pack only includes the maps, not any of the extra Horde fortifications, weapon skins, characters or Achievements. So don’t worry! This just means that your friends who didn’t buy the first pack can still play on the maps with you. They just might not be as well prepared for battle. The Versus Booster Map Pack will be available for download on November 24th and the maps will only be available in public matchmaking.
