How many ways are there to say “I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it”? That seems to be my predicament, as One Day, a story following the events of two friends on the same day each year, was enjoyable but contained a couple of aggravating flaws. Firstly, the basis of their entire relationship was confounding, especially when accounting for common human responses to rejection. Second, and more ridiculous, many of the down-points played out as tragedy for the sake of emotional response. Still, it’s a beautifully presented, often funny and charming film that will be worth watching… eventually.

Verdict: Wait for the DVD/Blu-ray
