This Wednesday, Nathan and I took the opportunity to attend Sony’s media launch event for Resistance 3, Insomniac Games’ soon-to-be-released third installment in its Playstation 3-exclusive alien virus FPS franchise. Though it’s not actually releasing until early next month, Sony is likely getting a jump on building excitement for the game, and with good reason. It looks spectacular. Yes, it’s playable in stereoscopic 3D, and compatible with the Playstation Move Sharp Shooter, but graphically speaking, it looks fabulous. Quite frankly, we had problems with both the 3D and the Sharp Shooter controls, but playing with a regular controller, in 2D provided an intense and fluid shooter experience. If the story plays out similarly, it will be a highly enjoyable game.

Regarding the aforementioned issues, the 3D does work, but it included a distinct double-cross hair effect. Perhaps the glasses were not fully charged, and thus didn’t properly convert the entire picture, but it did appear that everything else was unaffected. Meanwhile, the Sharp Shooter controls felt unresponsive. Regardless, I still feel uncomfortable handling the peripheral. Resistance 3 will be releasing on September 6th. Check back soon for our video coverage from the event, including our interview with the game’s Creative Director, Marcus Smith.
