Earlier today, Ubisoft announced that it is currently developing six titles for Sony’s upcoming successor to the Playstation Portable, the Playstation Vita. All six will be installments of already existing franchises,. Including Asphalt, Assassin’s Creed, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, Lumines, Michael Jackson the Experience and Rayman Origins. Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, praised the new handheld saying, “With its processing power, dual tactile screens and cameras, PS Vita allows creators like Ubisoft new and unique opportunities to develop innovative games. We’ve got a strong and varied line-up that will offer fun and immersion to all audiences of the PS Vita.”

Ubisoft has not announced any potential release dates yet, but that’s fine at the moment, as no official release date for the Vita has been announced yet. It is, however, expected that the Playstation Vita will be launching some time between late 2011 and early 2012. We’ll have more information on the titles when it becomes available.
