One of the games Nintendo of Canada was showing at last week’s E3 2011 review event was the recently announced Kirby Wii. The name may still be a working title, but this game, first shown at Nintendo’s E3 2011 Press Conference, is already set to release this fall. It’s pretty clear that Nintendo was hedging on the success of Kirby’s Epic Yarn as a means to reignite the classic franchise. The game plays out similarly to the classic platforming titles of old, and brings the franchise backs to its roots with the mix of platforming and Kirby’s power absorbtion abilities. As an added bonus, it features four-player cooperative multiplayer, like other recent remakes of classic Nintendo titles, and some non-obtrusive and useful motion controls.

While I’m sure that playing with friends is fun – I did play with at least one other person – I was happy to play it on my own just the same, toying around with the new powers and enjoying the design of the worlds. The hidden alternate dimensions also add some extra discovery opportunities for explorers, just don’t go through if you’re not looking for a fight. I’m sure Kirby Wii will be a great title for families.
