Earlier today, Nathan and I attended a launch event for Infamous 2. Sitting down to try the game for ourselves, we came away with many positive and, sadly, negative thoughts. The comic book-style story presentation is pure eye candy, with a mix of animated comic and real time cutscenes. The movement and combat gameplay is fast-paced and offers a bevy of options for exploration, side quests and… let’s just say “fun blowing stuff up”.
That’d all be great if it weren’t for the fact that the game seems incomplete. From what we were told, we played the final, retail version, but there were numerous bugs. While the movement was fast-paced, moving between objects will have you floating upward instead of climbing onto objects, and climbing actual buildings doesn’t look quite right either. I often found myself aiming to melee attack one way, only to hit an innocent bystander behind me. The graphics are close to, but aren’t this clear. Finally, the non-enemy AI is just dense! “I just blew up a car”, “What car?” dense! Considering Infamous 2 releases next Tuesday, let’s hope the overall story can make up for those annoying issues. We’ll have a video next week.

Thanks for the warning. I consider this a Day 1 purchase, but I may just wait to see if any of these bugs get patched early.
Well, the game was still pretty fun (especially throwing cars into the air), but those issues really bothered me.
Especially the main character, who doesn’t look so, well, sharp, which is really annoying.
Also, I tried to test how dumb the AI actually was by exploding cars near cops, and they didn’t even notice a little bit. I also saved a person from being mugged, who then started jumping for joy, which makes sense. But then I decided to hit him, and he still continued to jump for joy. Either he was cookoo pants, or the AI really stinks.
We’re not getting a review copy (not that we have a PS3 to play it on anyway), so we won’t be able to give a proper final verdict. However, I’d assume it would be worth renting at the very least.
