» Rants: Rock Band Squier Pro Guitar Unboxing

L.E. Green

L.E. was recently lucky enough to win a brand new guitar from the fine folks from TechVibes and Future Shop in Vancouver. But this is no ordinary guitar. It’s the guitar we’ve been waiting over a year to see – the Rock Band Squier Pro guitar Fender specially designed for Rock Band 3! So what better way to celebrate our ownership of this brand new product than opening it up and trying it out for ourselves?  Well, neither of us can actually play guitar all that well, so we took it over to L.E.’s jam mate Akiva’s place, opened it up and had him put it through its paces, playing a few random songs and riffs. Can you catch all the songs he’s playing?

It doesn’t even come ready to play? You need a separate adapter?

Not ready for Rock Band, nope. The MIDI adapter actually costs $40 on its own. A little silly, if you ask me. We’ll see how it sounds with it though, and the Pro tutorials are actually as good of a learning tool as they say. If they are, it might actually be worth it.

The cost of a good guitar teacher is at least $30 an hour typically, so to be able to train with software and then purchase a better guitar later on could lead to some significant savings. If it works, that is.
