2K Games announced today that The Darkness II will be releasing for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows-based PCs this October. The publisher says that this sequel to the its comic book-based horror first-person shooter is “a well of dark and imaginative violence” that is unlike traditional first-person shooters because of its “uniquely stylized gameplay”. That refers to the franchise’s Quad-Wielding gameplay (which is apparently a term that 2K decided to trademark), which allows you to slash, grab and throw objects or people with The Darkness’ Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons with the character’s normal hands.

The Darkness II follows Jackie two years after Jackie Estacado used the power of The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend, Jenny’s, murder. Now the Don of the Estacado crime family, Jackie continues to be haunted by her death, and by his supernatural powers, both of which he is trying to suppress. But a botched attempt to end his life results in The Darkness being unleashed again, taking Jackie on a trip to hell and back. The Darkness II will be releasing in North America on October 4th and internationally on the 7th.
