As promised, here is the video portion of our visit to the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta preview. Of course, there’s only so much you can say in 200 words, and “I like Gears of War” doesn’t really get across just how much we enjoyed playing, so I’m going to take this quick opportunity to elaborate upon yesterday’s article.

The tournaments were two rounds of five-on-five Team Deathmatch. Nathan and I were part of a team aptly named “Hey That’s My Fish”, and because our host system kept overheating, we only managed to play one full round (but the three other incomplete rounds were just as fun). Aside from new weapons and multiplayer balancing tweaks that I won’t get into here, there’s also a new tagging ability that lets you mark targets for your teammates. If I had more time with it, I’m sure I would have found it quite useful. From the short playtest, we could only assume that the multiplayer in Gears 3 is very reminiscent of the first two games. Since I enjoyed those titles, that’s great news. If the single player campaign holds up as well as the multiplayer, Gears of War 3 will be a very worthy purchase.
