This past Thursday, Nathan and I joined our fellow Toronto-based video game journalists, and a lucky few Twitter contest winners, at Microsoft Canada’s Toronto offices for a preview of the upcoming multiplayer beta for Gears of War 3. Rod Fergusson, the game’s executive producer (he’s also been with the franchise from the start), was also on hand to take questions about the game’s new features, weapons and more. We’ll hopefully have some of that Q&A up in tomorrow’s video.
Nathan and I learned a couple of things from the event. First, we suck at competitive multiplayer. Second, Gears 3 still has some of minor glitches that need to be resolved before it releases (since that’s September, we’re not really worried). Finally, regardless of the first two notes, we had a lot of fun and we’re really looking forward to seeing, and playing, more. Between rounds of switching overheated consoles (caused by the crowded room), we played Team Deathmatch on the Trenches map. The gameplay is as fierce as you would expect, and the new weapons and environments look great. Beta entrants have a lot to look forward to. That said, what we’re more excited for is the single player campaign.
