This past weekend Hobby Star Marketing held its annual Fan Expo Canada event at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in, you guessed it, downtown Toronto, celebrating all things science fiction, comic books, video games, horror and anime. We got the chance to check out the show for ourselves and, as with every year, it was quite the experience. There were booths packed with merchandise, artists and writers showing off their work, a multitude of cosplayers (costume players) and a bevy of celebrities to meet, including Felicia Day, Summer Glau, James Marsters, William Shatner, Adam West, Burt Ward and many more.

While we didn’t get the chance to speak with any of this year’s special guests we did take a minute to speak with Michael Dorn (Star Trek, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Mass Effect 2) – a class act – and did a number of interviews with show attendees of all kinds, including exhibitors and cosplayers. Those interviews will be appearing on the site later in the week, some in our weekly video, and others in one or more separate videos. In the mean time, enjoy these shots from the show floor. You can find more on our Facebook profile.

Thanks for taking our picture! And sorry it was a bit confusing, so loud in there and.. I was tired. xD haha

    • Anytime!

I know my knowledge of things comic and anime related is weak at best, but what was the theme for your costumes? Was it just random? Or did you choose such an eclectic array of outfits on purpose?

I’m going to guess that they picked their favourite fantasy characters and simply went with that. But I’m boring that way.

Lol well, the cat girl was “Death Kitty,” it was my friend’s own original character based on one of the four horsemen of the Apocolypse, in cat form.
I was Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. I had a Harry with me but she hadn’t arrived yet when you came around.
Sailor moon is in the middle, I actually had just met her about an hour before you took the picture. :)
And the three on the left end are from Final Fantasy 13, two of which i’d just met that day as well, but I knew the girl in the blue rather well.

Oh and by the way, my inspiration to be Ron was actually pretyt last minute. I had the clothes left over from my old Harry Potter cosstume (I wore that when I was twelve and the pants and shirt STILL fit. Fff) and my friend wasn’t able to wear the costume she had planned that day. so I said I’d join her if she wore Harry so she didn’t feel alone. :)
